Prophylaxis (Teeth Cleaning) A skilled hygienist always performs prophylaxis, also known as "teeth cleaning." They usually take several X-rays of your teeth to check for any decay, pathology, or misalignment. Your health history will be reviewed, and you'll be asked to update any changes. Please note that you should give your hygienist a full list of any medication, herbs, vitamins, or OTC drugs that you may be taking, including creams and drops, as they may be important to your care. Also, please inform us of any surgeries or illnesses that you may have had since your last checkup. The hygienist may then scale and polish your teeth. Fluoride may also be given at this time. The doctor is then called in for an exam and to review all of the information you have given.
Operative (Fillings) During an operative or "filling" appointment, Woodlyn Dental uses the most up-to-date composite (tooth colored) material. Even though there is no definitive proof that silver fillings are harmful, we find that the composite works best for our patients.
Sealants Dental sealants are placed on teeth that have very deep grooves. These grooves are a breeding ground for bacteria, and because your toothbrush can't get to them, they usually end up getting decayed. A sealant is a thin plastic material that fills in these fissures, so that bacteria cannot enter them anymore. This service is almost always performed on children.
Endodontics (Root Canal Therapy)
Root Canal Therapy is usually required when a tooth becomes abscess, infected, or inflamed.
Crowns Root Canal Therapy help protect the tooth from further damage but mainly re-enforces the entire tooth structure.
Veneers Veneers are often used to close spaces in between teeth. A thin layer of enamel is removed and the veneer is made to fit the tooth. It is not unlike fake nails being applied. This procedure is usually done when the total support of a crown is not needed, and the aesthetic result is amazing.
Dentures Dentures are made for people that have little or no remaining teeth. We're proud to use the MDI implant system, which helps anchor a denture by placing implants first and constructing the denture to fit securely over the implants to have better stability while also withstanding natural lifting forces.
Pediatric Dentistry We treat children 3 years old and up for all phases of dentistry.
Extra Services Implant reconstruction and Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) are also available.
